September 2025 News & Updates
Kalo Xeimona!
September always brings so many new beginnings: the start of the new school year, the new liturgical year, and of course the beautiful shift of the seasons.

The leaves are just starting to change here on campus, and the children have embarked on so many new endeavors: new extracurriculars, sports teams, clubs, college tours, work opportunities and more. Accompanying them through the milestones, challenges, and triumphs of their young lives is our greatest privilege. Please join us in wishing them an absolutely amazing 2025–2026 year!

Earlier in the month, our friends from Port Jefferson AHEPA Chapter 319 hosted our kids on an amazing chartered fishing trip in memory of Bobby Gemelas. The fish were biting, and the kids got an impressive haul! Thank you so much to AHEPA for inviting them, and memory eternal for your AHEPA brother Bobby.

The week after that, some of our high school seniors visited Boston on a college tour and had a great experience. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what the year brings in their educational journeys.

Over this past weekend, AHEPA Chapter 367 of Washington Heights in association with Saint Spyridon Church Sunday School sponsored our children to go see the yankees play the Orioles. The kids had a blast, and the Yankees won! Thank you, AHEPA 367!

Next month we have our annual Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, October 18, and we hope to see you all there. God willing, the campus will be magnificent in fall foliage, and we are so excited to see friends from near and far! Several GOYA and JOY groups are making the walkathon the inaugural event of their 2025–26 year, which is especially exciting.

Speaking of GOYA, we are thrilled to have the 2026 Saint Basil Lenten GOYA retreat on the calendar! Please save the date for Saturday, March 21 for a day of faith, fellowship, and fun. More info to follow : )
Thank you as always for your friendship and support. It means more than you know. Can’t wait to see you soon!
With love and gratitude,
The Saint Basil Academy Family
Did You Know?

Two years ago, Saint Basil Academy launched the 529 Educational Savings Initiative. All of our children under the age of 18 now have their own individual New York 529 College Savings Accounts! If you are unfamiliar with New York 529 Accounts, you can learn more about them here, but essentially they are tax-advantaged investment accounts specifically for higher education/vocational training expenses.
The Saint Basil 529 Initiative does not replace the extensive assistance with scholarships, applications, and college counseling that we have always provided. Rather, it functions in conjunction with this efforts to give our children as much educational and vocational support as possible. Not only does this increase their financial literacy, but it ultimately helps them achieve financial independence and stability.
If you are interested in donating to a Saint Basil resident’s 529 College Savings account, please email Ms. Lauren at L.Biniaris@sbagoa.org.

Support Our Work
As a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity, Saint Basil Academy depends upon the financial support of its beloved friends and donors. Our supporters contribute in many different ways, from monetary and material donations to naming Saint Basil as a beneficiary in life insurance and estate planning. Saint Basil Academy also has several earmarked funds in place for therapeutic art classes and outdoor excursions. Sponsoring a resident, becoming a host family, and/or referring a child to Saint Basil Academy are other vital ways of providing support as well. When you give to Saint Basil Academy, you are helping a child in need in a powerful way.
