July / August 2025 News & Updates
Happy end of summer, dear friends of Saint Basil! We hope this finds you well and that July and August have been restful and restorative.

Summer is generally a quieter time here on campus than during other parts of the year, but behind the scenes so much is happening. Our children are busy with camps, travel, summer jobs, and gaining formative life experiences. This summer alone, our children have attended Ionian Village, Camp Saint Paul, arts camps, horseback programs, and more. Many of them worked as counselors at our town’s recreation camp, as lifeguards, and as staff in local restaurants. We are so proud of them!

Earlier in August, our children attended the annual Ocean City, Maryland beach trip sponsored by our longtime friends and supporters from the Saint George Greek Orthodox Community of Ocean City. This is something that our children look forward to all year long, and as usual, they had an absolute blast. Big, huge, heartfelt thanks to everyone at Saint George GOC!

This week, Saint Basil Academy is hosting our annual 3-day in-service training for all staff. This is a crucial time in reflecting on the previous year, planning for the year ahead, and continuing staff development and education in areas like Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, best practices across all departments, and team-building. Saint Basil staff receive ongoing high level trainings throughout the year, and our annual in-service helps set the tone for a safe and successful year ahead.

We hope to see you all at our annual Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, October 18th. It is always a super fun event and a wonderful way to see the campus and hang out with the whole Saint Basil family. We sincerely hope to see you there!
As always, thank you so much for your friendship and support. The work we do depends on folks like you, and we are extremely grateful!
Wishing you a wonderful end of summer and an even more wonderful start to the fall!
With love,
The Saint Basil Family

Together with Saint Gregory the Theologian and Saint John Chrysostom, Saint Basil the Great is recognized as one of the three great hierarchs of the Orthodox Church. Saint Basil, always compassionate to those who needed assistance, was the first to establish orphanages, hospitals, and homes for the aged in the 4th century. Together, these institutions became known as “Basiliada,” philanthropic societies serving those in need. Saint Basil is revered as one of the greatest Fathers of the Church: He died at forty-nine years old on January 1, 379 A.D.
