May 2025 News & Updates
Hello, Dear friends of Saint Basil Academy! We hope this finds you all well and that last month has been good to you as it has been to us.
Thanks to our dear friends from AHEPA/Daughters of Penelope District 6, our residents got to attend not just one but two exciting events over the last week alone! On Memorial Day, we had our much anticipated trip to Rocking Horse Ranch. For the past three years, District 6 has sponsored a trip to Rocking Horse where our children get to ride horses, do exciting water sports, eat amazing food, and enjoy fun activities galore! Everyone had an absolute blast.
This past Saturday, our District 6 friends also hosted us to Greek Night at the Mets! the rain and one sniffles kept some of our children away, but those who braved the weather had a blast! And the Mets beat the Rockies 8 to 2! We cannot overstate how much trips and experiences like these enrich the lives of our children, helping them to create lasting, joyful memories which are such a tremendous gift. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, AHEPA/DOP District 6!
Earlier in May, our home school children took a Saint Basil Experience Fund sponsored field trip to the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. They learned about things like the planets, beehives, hurricanes, and more! Hands on experiential learning is a primary component of their homeschooling. We are so proud of how inquisitive, insightful, and curious they are!
As we enter June, we are in full-on graduation mode. Please join us on Saturday, June 7th at 11 AM! If you have never attended a Saint Basil graduation before, they are fun and joyful events featuring speeches and performances by the children, clergy, alumni, and special guests such as His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. The ceremony will be followed by a delicious luncheon under a marquis tent overlooking the Hudson River and West Point Military Academy. All are welcome, and we would love to see you there to help us celebrate the achievements and milestones of our beloved children over the last academic year! Kindly RSVP to l.biniaris@sbagoa.org.
The week after graduation, another very exciting event will be happening on campus. On Saturday, June 14th at 11 AM, the District 6 Maids of Athena sponsored Sensory Room will be unveiled! A sensory room is a safe space designed to help children and adults alike relax, focus, manage stress, and engage all 5 of their senses. Thank you so much to all of the Maids, especially District 6 MOA Governor, Sophia Theodorou, for spearheading this amazing project and bringing it to life! We can’t wait to celebrate with you on June 14th.
We hope to see you all very soon, and as always thank you so much for your friendship and support! Here’s a little artistic inspiration from one of our younger children to brighten your day. The assignment was for each child to make a handprint and then to say what they thought hands were for. According to this child, the answer was simple: Love. What more perfect answer could there be?
With love and gratitude,
